Each sensor uses the stable LM393 comparator chip and outputs both analog and digital signals. The digital DO pin goes high when moisture falls below your set threshold, making it simple to interface with a microcontroller or relay. Adjust the sensitivity with the onboard blue potentiometer: turn clockwise to require drier soil before triggering. The corrosion-resistant nickel plating on the probe means it holds up longer when buried in damp potting mix.
During testing, I found the detection patch wide enough to get a consistent reading across different soil types. The mounting hole at 1.26 inches long makes it easy to secure inside a pot. Just insert the probe about halfway, connect 3.3V or 5V, and set your trigger point. Low humidity = DO high. You get ten sensors in one pack, enough to monitor several planters without worrying about cross-contamination between pots.
